How to Identify male Plants

If you are growing cannabis for medical objectives, you need to understand how to identify male vs female weed plants. Mostly all cultivators choose female cannabis plants because only females develop the desirable buds needed for medicinal functions. Male plants have low strength and THC content compared to the female plants, and they are kept to mostly produce seeds

To Identify Male Plants

1. Look thicker, strong stalks with fewer leaves on male plants. A male plant, compared to a female plant of the same strain, normally has a thicker stalk. Because it gets taller than female plants and needs to be able to support the weight. They also have fewer leaves than female plants.
2. Inspect your plants regularly from July to September to sex them. They will drastically reduce the prospective crop of your female plants if male plants are allowed to pollinate. That’s because, as soon as they are fertilized, female plants spend energy producing seeds instead of THC, causing a smaller harvest. If you are growing an indoor home you will be checking your plants frequently, so it’s easy to check the following thing:

• You are required to inspect every plant to see if it is female or male.
• As a whole, male plants show their genders 7-10 days or 3 weeks before female plants.

1. The little balls that grow on the joints of the stalk are the early signs of male plants. These flowers release pollen and need to be removed for a better crop. Female plants will have these light bulbs too, but will also have long, white hairs on them. If you only see 1-2 on a plant check and wait if more are established before reducing them.
2. Know that hermaphroditic (both sexes) plants exist and should be dealt with as males. Marijuana plants can grow both gender organs. If you see any of the telltale male buds, you should trim them like you would a male plant. “Hermies” are usually undesirable plants, and they can ruin a tiny crop with their pollen if you’re not mindful.
3. Throw out or remove male plants unless you desire seeds. You must remove it or it will ruin your plant when you’ve developed a male plant. Do not try to eliminate the buds by hand, as missing out on a couple will significantly lower your crop. While a lot of farmers simply throw the plants out, a few maintain them around for breeding purposes. If you do, put them in a different area from the females, and make sure you do not track pollen in from the male space to the female area on your hands or clothing.
